In anticipation of our upcoming IS Ruhr Unplugged event on 5 December, two of our Grade 11 CAS students, Masha and Yu Su, sat down with Jayce and Naveh from Grade 8, who will be lighting up the dance floor that evening. In this interview, they share insights into their preparation, the passion behind their routines, and what inspires them to dance. Alongside the interview, we’re thrilled to showcase a video preview of their dance moves, giving everyone a taste of what’s to come. Don’t miss this behind-the-scenes look, and be sure to join us for what promises to be an unforgettable performance!

Masha, Yu Su: Hi guys, how are you feeling today?
Naveh: Pretty good.
Jayce: Yes we are fine.
Masha, Yu Su: Today we want to interview you about your dancing career and your plans. We will ask you five questions in total, but it will not take too long, is that alright for you?
Naveh, Jayce: Yes, we are ready, we can start.

Masha, Yu Su: So the first question that we would like to ask you is “What’s your name/ Briefly introduce yourself, please”.
Jayce: Okay, so my name is Jayce, I am 12 years old and I am an 8th-grade student.
Naveh: Yeah, my name is Naveh, I am 13 and I am in the same class as Jayce.

Masha, Yu Su: Alright guys, thank you for your response, could you please tell us about how long you have been dancing and how you started?
Jayce: I started 6 years ago, I started just for fun because my parents wanted me to do some activities after school. After 2 years I have figured out that dance is really my thing, so I just started to train more and get better for competitions as when I just started participating in some competitions I would always be the last one. That’s why I started training hard and as a result, last year we became world champion, which is an amazing achievement for us as we can actually see how far my efforts have taken me.
Masha: Okay, thank you so much for your response.
Yu Su: Now Naveh, do you want to answer the question?
Naveh: Yeah, of course. So for me, I have always liked music, so then when actually at his birthday party we played the dance on the Nintendo and then I really liked that, and then when we checked, the dance school was just two minutes away from my house so then I decided that I could try. So I kept practicing and around 3 years ago we started dancing and participating in competitions together.

Masha, Yu Su: Okay, thank you for your response, the next question that we want to ask you is “What is the hardest part about being a professional dancer?”.
Naveh: I would say that the hardest is managing the schoolwork and the dance competitions at the same time. When I’m at a dance competition, then I can’t really do schoolwork.
Jayce: I would just say time management is the hardest thing when you have a hobby that you go into so deeply because first you have to go with all the training schedules and you have to manage homework, school, and all that. It’s not always the easiest. Obviously, stuff that you maybe want to do by yourself, maybe in video games. But I don’t do any of that. I don’t play video games. Basically, what I do is school and dance, my main things.

Masha & Yu Su: Okay, thank you for your response. We would also like to ask you about “How long do you spend practicing your dance every day”?
Naveh and Jayce: Maybe because we are studying in MYP now so we get a lot of time after school. Approximately 3 to 4 hours a day, but overall, it depends on the day .

Masha and Yu Su: Is there anything you would like to suggest to people waiting to start wanting to start dancing? Any suggestions?
Jayce: If they enjoy dancing, it’s just like, it’s all about having fun. Just move the way you want to the music. They should try.
Naveh: If they’re just starting to dance, then they should really pay attention to the music and just enjoy themselves. Okay.

Masha and Yu Su: Alright guys, thank you for your participation today, have a nice day!!!
