We are pleased to announce that due to demand, we will be offering places to children turning 3 before 30 September 2024. Our EY Centre teaches the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary years programme (PYP). It is part of the IS Ruhr Primary school. We provide a multi-lingual environment with qualified international teaching staff, with English as the language of instruction. Our students are offered a variety of play-based learning experiences, both indoors and outdoors. Our Primary Years (Grades 1-5) are currently full and have waiting lists. Enroll your child in the Early Years to guarantee them an international education at IS Ruhr in Essen.
OUR ADMISSIONS PROCESS
01 INITIAL INTERVIEW
After the initial contact we arrange an interview to get to know you better. Here, the focus is on sharing your child’s educational journey with us so that we can explain how IS Ruhr can help your family.
02 DOCUMENTATION
During this stage of the process, you will receive all the required documents to be completed and submitted to progress to the next stage. We are always available by phone and email to answer any further questions you may have at this point.
03 Admissions
PRIMARY YEARS – EARLY YEARS 1–3
Admissions to our Early Years Center is possible at any time.
PRIMARY YEARS – Grades 1–5
In our Primary School it is possible to start at anytime, as long as there is a space available. Before admission, we must receive all documents (e.g. previous reports and a confidential report from the current school). Before a final decision is made, your child must attend up to three trial days in their potential class.
SECONDARY YEARS – GRADES 6-12
Depending on the availability of places, starting in our Secondary School is possible at any time. Prior to this, a written placement test must be taken in English and Mathematics. After this we offer trial days and with students entering Grades 9-12 an interview with our Head of Secondary Years.
04 SIGNATURE
This is the final stage of the process where upon signing the contract, you will be informed of the date when your child can start. Thoughout each stage of the process we will keep in touch with you. Our staff are very familiar with welcoming new students and families and understand what transition means.

FAMILIES INTRODUCE FAMILIES
At IS Ruhr, we value the positive experiences of our families. Are you a satisfied IS Ruhr parent? Then we would like to give something back to you. Help other parents bring their children to IS Ruhr! Admission to our Early Years starts a child’s learning journey through our school. Currently, we have waiting lists in the Primary Years, making the Early Years Centre the best way to secure a place. Recommend a familiy and both families will receive a 10% fee remission for the 2025-26 academic year.
